Technology – Advanced Eye Care

We use the most up-to-date technology to ensure the best eye care possible. Here are some different tests and equipment you may experience visiting our practice.

3D OCT-1 Maestro

This comprehensive OCT platform gives you retinal, optic nerve, and anterior segment imaging capabilities and beautiful fundus and anterior eye images with an extensive tonal range. This advanced technology is invaluable for diagnosing and managing various ocular conditions, including macular degeneration, glaucoma, and other retinal disorders. It provides detailed insights into the structural changes of the eye, aiding in early detection and effective treatment planning.

iCare Tonometer

This accurate, painless puffless tonometer measures the eye’s intraocular pressure (IOP). The iCare Tonometer is crucial for patients who require glaucoma management, as it allows for regular monitoring of IOP without the discomfort associated with traditional tonometry methods. Early detection of elevated IOP is essential for preventing vision loss in patients with glaucoma.

iPac® Pachymeter

Pachymetry measures corneal thickness using simple ultrasound and is useful in screening for patients suspected of developing glaucoma and keratoconus, among other uses. The iPac® Pachymeter provides a reliable and efficient method for assessing corneal thickness, aiding in the early detection and management of conditions affecting the cornea.

Le 1000 Express Lens Edger

The all-gear-driven mechanisms of the Le 1000 Express Lens Edger provide high accuracy and durability. The model has recently been upgraded, providing a 20% faster processing cycle yet with a “whisper quiet” operation. The recent upgrade ensures efficient and quiet lens processing, enhancing the overall experience for both eye care professionals and patients.

Bruder Moist Heat Eye Compress

BRUDER Moist Heat Eye Compress opens oil glands and allows natural oils to flow back into the eye, relieving discomfort from aging, contact lenses, use of digital devices, and more. This innovative device is particularly beneficial for individuals suffering from dry eye syndrome, blepharitis, and other conditions affecting the tear film. Regular use of the compress can alleviate symptoms and improve overall eye health.

SL 120

Evaluates the tear film on the surface of the eye to facilitate diagnosis. It may detect many diseases of the eye, including eyelid diseases such as blepharitis, conjunctivitis, cataracts, corneal injuries and diseases such as keratoconus, retinal diseases such as macular degeneration and retinal detachment, and dry eye. The SL 120 evaluates the tear film on the eye’s surface to facilitate diagnosis and may detect many eye diseases. We can effectively identify conditions such as the above through the detailed imaging provided by the SL 120. This aids eye care professionals in comprehensive diagnosis and targeted treatment strategies.

KC ERG: Early Detection for Keratoconus

Electroretinography (ERG) is a non-invasive diagnostic test that measures how your retina responds to light stimuli. ERG is the only test that objectively measures retinal function, rather than retinal structure; helping your doctor evaluate how well the retina is working. ERG plays an important role in the early detection of retinal dysfunction and can help identify conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and other retinal pathology before structural damage becomes visible on imaging or during a standard eye exam.

Spot™ Vision Screener: Fast, Child-Friendly Autorefraction

Ideal for patients of all ages, especially children, the Spot Vision Screener (also known as Spot Scope Autorefractor) delivers quick, handheld autorefractor results. Its non-invasive design helps us screen for multiple vision issues in just seconds—without requiring verbal feedback.

Features:

  • Captures refraction, pupil size, and alignment in one shot
  • Perfect for young children or patients with communication barriers
  • Enables early intervention for issues like amblyopia or astigmatism

Virtual Vision Visual Field Testing

The Virtual Vision Visual Field machine performs non-invasive testing that evaluates a patient’s central and peripheral vision. This advanced technology plays a critical role in detecting visual field defects, particularly in the early diagnosis and ongoing management of glaucoma. It also helps identify abnormalities related to neurological conditions, such as stroke or optic nerve damage, as well as retinal diseases that may affect peripheral vision. By mapping how visual information is processed across different areas of your field of view, this test helps us uncover conditions that may not yet present noticeable symptoms, ensuring timely and accurate care.

Waggoner Advanced Color Vision Screener

[tokens name=practice] uses the Waggoner Advanced Color Vision Screener to offer one of the most comprehensive color vision assessments available in the Waterville area. Unlike standard tests that only check for red-green deficiencies, this advanced screening also detects blue-yellow color vision loss; an important tool for identifying less common, yet clinically significant, color vision issues. Whether for school readiness, occupational screening, or routine eye health monitoring, this technology allows us to provide more accurate results and personalized care.
